My family lives near Salt Lake and I am here to tell you Saint George is a favorite vacation spot during Fall, Winter, and Spring because the weather is so nice compared to up north!

In this post, We are going to share all of the fun things to do in St. George Utah! This will give you a good idea of all the St. George attractions and activities in St. George Utah. From Downtown St. George Utah to surrounding national and state parks, get ready to plan the best St. George itinerary!

St. George Utah

Before we jump into all the fun things to do in Saint George Utah, I thought it would be good to go over a few logistics.

Where is St. George?

Saint George is located in Southern Utah. It is just over a 4-hour drive from Salt Lake City and less than a 2-hour drive from Las Vegas.

Saint George is one of the biggest cities in southern Utah. This makes it a perfect base camp for enjoying all of the fun things to do in Southern Utah.

My family has planned many family reunions in St. George over the years. It is one of the best places for a Utah family reunion. One of the main reasons is the variety of accommodations for large groups.

So before we jump into all of the best things to do in St. George we are going to give you a few ideas for accommodations.

One thing we love about St. George is the beautiful communities around town. These communities have been designed to attract families and large groups.

Vacation Homes

There are many vacation homes and townhomes near St. George. You can book a large home on VRBO. These communities have huge pools, game rooms, and sometimes even private pools.

Resorts

If you are not traveling for a family event, a really cool option is the Red Mountain Resort, or staying closer to Zion National Park in one of the lodges or glamping sites nearby.

Hotels

If you are coming into town for a sporting event, (There are lots and lots of sporting events in St. George) it is probably best to stay at a typically hotel.

There are Marriott properties and Hilton. We have stayed at the Springhill Suites many times and it is fantastic!

Sand Hollow State Park is a beautiful reservoir with red rock and blue water.

The most popular activity at Sand Hollow is boating. You can bring your boat or rent a boat, jet skis, or sailboats. If you do not want to boat, swimming is another favorite activity. Paddleboards and kayaks are really fun to bring to Sand Hollow.

Fishing is another fun activity to do at Sand Hollow!

Beach at Sand Hollow

The beach is fantastic! If you just want to bring your umbrellas and hang out on the beach and swim, that is a great option as well.

Sand Hollow water temperature in the summer is around 84 degrees.

It is very popular to bring your UTV, ATV, and dune buggies to this area and enjoy the dunes located right next to the lake.

I can not tell you enough how fun the UTV guided tour is. The two most popular trails in St. George are located at Sand Hollow and Coral Pink Sand Dunes.

Our Experience

We took a group of 15 and had a blast. We purchased a guided UTV Tour. Our tour was led by two amazing tour guides. We got to go over some fun terrain with different obstacles. Our tour included over Horseshoe Bend, Box Canyon, Top of the World, and Cliffs of Insanity.

We loved some of the fun tricks and passes along the path. It was a highlight of our trip.

Snow Canyon State Park is a popular hiking and biking area near St. George. There are some amazing red rocks and fabulous trails.

Our Experience

We have been many times. There are some amazing hikes in the area. They range from easy to hard depending on where you go.

We usually stick with the easy trails! One trail that we love is Pioneer Names. This is an easy hike where you can see some of the first pioneers who settled in the area.

When we were there, there were lots and lots of e-bikes. E-bikes are perfect for this area because there are paved trails.

One thing I would note is that temperatures even in Spring can get hot. I highly recommend going in the morning.

Fee

There is a $10 fee per car at Snow Canyon State Park.

Tuachan has a fantastic reputation. It is known to have Broadway-quality shows in the middle of the desert.

Every year there is a lineup of fantastic shows offered. There are usually 3 primer shows that run the entire season from April – October. Ticket prices vary depending on the show.

Be sure to look on the website because you might be able to save a little money. We did!

Our Experience

We recently went to the play Anastasia. It was fantastic! I have seen many many Broadway shows and I would have to agree that this show was amazing.

If you go during the 4th of July or the Utah State holiday Pioneer Day there will be fireworks after the show.

We went on Pioneer Day and were blown away by the fireworks display. It was the best I have ever seen!

One of the main St. George attractions is Zion National Park. This west coast national parkis one of the best National Parks in the US and one of the top Utah National Parks.

Zion is so popular that you will want to get there very early during April – October so that you can get a parking spot at the visitor center. There is a shuttle that will take you to each area of the park.

Entrance Fee

We typically get a National Park Pass but if you do not have one the entry fee is around $35.

Hiking at Zion National Park

There are so many beautiful hikes at Zion National Park. Having been so many times I highly recommend the Narrows during the summer. You actually get to hike through water inside a narrow canyon. It is pretty cool. (Just bring water shoes)

There are also many tours at Zion National Park. Stargazing, cycling, and hiking are always crowd favorites!

Our Experience

We have been to Zion more times than we can count. My favorite time to visit is early Spring. It is so beautiful and not as crowded. There are lots of hikes and fun trails that keeps my family busy! We love visiting Zion National Park!

Pioneer Park is one of the best things to do in St. George Utah. This little park has some fun areas to hit.

You can go inside a cave, cross a bridge on top of the rocks, get a phenomenal view of the city, and even try to fit into a tiny place between two large rocks. (The last picture on this page. Not my thing!)

Our Experience

We love hiking around this park and highly recommend adding it to your St. George itinerary!

If you see a big rock that says Dixie on it, you will know you are in the right spot. There are a few parking lots to choose from. This is a free thing to do in St. George.

This is the perfect place to bring the kids and get a little energy out. My kids love climbing all over the rocks!

One of the best things to do in St. George Utah is hit one of the many bike parks. There are some awesome locations where you can try a few tricks and fly.

Snake Hollow Bike Park andSt. George Bike Park are great options.

Our Experience

We went to the bike park during our family reunion, it was pretty fun. We had more adventurous teens who were pretty excited to do a few jumps.

There are a few areas. One for more advanced moves and one for beginners. All of the kids loved trying it out!

The St. George Utah Temple is a beautiful building. It was the first LDS temple built in Utah. It was dedicated in 1877.

Temples are very special buildings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But even if you are not LDS you should still stop by and visit the visitor center.

The visitor center is great for families, if you get a chance to stop by ask to experience the interactive family video. It is so cool!

Our Experience

My 9-year-old had an awesome time exploring the center and learning about the pioneers. He was even able to do a scavenger hunt and get a prize.

There are a few other church historic sites in the area that are worth visiting as well. Especially if you love history.
